STEVE KINSER & DONNY SCHATZ
Tony Stewart Racing Tandem Shoots for Better Results in California Doubleheader

INDIANAPOLIS (March 20, 2013) – Just as a number of college basketball teams are hoping to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow over the next three weeks of NCAA March Madness play, the best Winged Sprint car drivers are seeking gold this weekend with a pair of World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events in The Golden State of California. Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser look to rebound from a tough weekend at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif., by christening Stockton 99 Dirt Track Friday and returning to Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico for the annual Mini Gold Cup Saturday.

Friday’s inaugural appearance by “The Greatest Show on Dirt” at Stockton 99 Dirt Track will be the first of three races at new facilities this season. Both TSR drivers have been maiden winners at several facilities throughout their careers, including each in the past two seasons. In September 2011, Kinser raced to victory at Antioch (Calif.) Speedway, leading the final five laps to become the track’s first Outlaw winner. Last season, Schatz dominated the Outlaws’ first visit to Cornwall (Ontario) Motor Speedway, leading all 30 laps of the A-Feature. That win started his monumental run to a fifth WoO STP Sprint Cars Series title.

Performing in the clutch is a common characteristic of most champions. Despite the fact that this year’s World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series champion won’t be decided until the first week of November, the outcomes of the next 16 races may go a long way toward establishing a frontrunner. Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz are locked in a battle on top of the WoO standings, and both have had tremendous success in the past during Sprint car racing’s “Month of Money.” This year’s edition kicks off with the Brad Doty Classic Wednesday and ends with the 29th annual Kings Royal at Tony Stewart’s Eldora Speedway Saturday night.

The 2012 WoO season has been more competitive than ever with numerous winners of multiple events and changes at the top of the standings being a regular occurrence. Kinser leads the tour back into action Wednesday at Limaland Motorsports Park in Lima, Ohio, at the 24th annual Ohio Logistics Brad Doty Classic presented by Racing Optics. Kinser is one of only three drivers to win the Brad Doty Classic more than once, and he hopes to pilot the TSR No. 11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D. Byrider/Chevrolet Maxim to his third Classic triumph and fifth career victory at Limaland.

INDIANAPOLIS (March 13, 2011) – After staging races last weekend in “Sin City” and Southern California, the stars of the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Car Series will set up camp for the next three weekends in the Golden State and compete six times in central California. Tony Stewart Racing’s (TSR) Steve Kinser and Donny Schatz are looking to avoid any upsets of the March Madness variety and charge through the competition like number-one seeds racing through their brackets when they resume action on Friday and Saturday night at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif.

Kinser is coming off a pair of third-place finishes behind the wheel of the TSR No. 11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D.Byrider/Chevy Maxim, and the 20-time WoO champion is still seeking his first triumph in 2012. Kinser won the Outlaws’ first-ever race at Thunderbowl back in September 2003. It was the first of 18 times he’s raced at the track with his best weekend coming in February 2006, when he swept a pair of feature races staged by the National Sprint Tour. “The King of the Outlaws” has seven top-10 finishes in his last eight starts at the track, including a charge from 17th to sixth in the series’ most recent stop there last March.

INDIANAPOLIS (March 6, 2011) – In the dusty world of dirt-track racing, competitors more frequently find themselves knocking mud off their shoes than shading their eyes from the bright lights. This week offers the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) tandem of Donny Schatz and Steve Kinser the chance do a little more of both as the World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series makes stops in the highly radiant markets of Las Vegas and Southern California.

After beginning the 2012 WoO campaign in Florida with three nights of action in mid-February, Schatz and Kinser will resume racing on Thursday night at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. And on Saturday night, the Winged Sprint car stars will fight for top billing in the NAPA Know How SoCal Showdown at Perris Auto Speedway in Lake Perris, Calif.

After completing three events within 24 hours on Feb. 18 and 19 at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., the TSR teams have spent the past two weeks working at their respective shops back in Indiana. Schatz kick started the Outlaws season with a victory, a second- and a fourth-place finish aboard the TSR No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevy J&J in the first three WoO races and leads the 2012 WoO championship standings with 438 points heading into Thursday’s race. Kinser, meanwhile, is looking to change his luck behind the wheel of the TSR No. 11 Bass Pro Shops/J.D.Byrider/Chevy Maxim when he hits the Las Vegas dirt. The 20-time WoO champion seemed to only have bad luck during the first race in Florida, finishing ninth, 17th and 12th, and he ranks 13th in the standings with 374 markers.

Donny Schatz, Driver of the No. 15 TSR/STP/Armor All/Chevy J&J:

With the way you ended last year’s World of Outlaws campaign, would you have liked the 2012 season to start right away?

“We finished the season off pretty strong and really started to get that feeling back. Any time you are winning, you want to keep racing. Last year, we had some struggles and fortunately found our way toward the end of the year. The crew needed some time to get our program where we need it to be. I was happy to be able to stay active and race both in New Zealand and Australia. I spent some time at the raceshop recently and I can tell you Ricky, Steve and Bob worked hard this winter. I’m excited to get things going.”
You mentioned your team. How important is it that you have all the same people working together for the second year in a row?

“It’s really big when you are in a competitive environment like we are. At the end of last year, we were all getting along great and having an absolute blast. Even though we struggled at times during the year, we just had to keep working together. You can’t have success without failure. If you don’t learn what not to do, you don’t know what to do. The team that Tony has assembled, we’re all competitive people. We pushed each other to the limit and maybe even over the limit. The same mentally that got us in trouble is what brought us back to the winning stages and having a dominant racecar. I know how hard they work and it motivates me to be the best I can in the car and win races for those guys.”

Tony Stewart Racing Driver Opens World of Outlaws Campaign in Florida

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 15, 2012) – When the 2011 World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series season concluded last November, there was a bug going around the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) camp. It was something that not only TSR’s Donny Schatz felt, but his boss, Tony Stewart, also caught it. The 2012 WoO season is set to open this weekend with the 41st Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals by University of Northwestern Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., and Schatz is hoping he hasn’t been cured.

Schatz closed 2011 by sweeping the WoO World Finals in Charlotte. Two weeks later, he scored his second straight Western World Championships triumph in Arizona, and he followed that by winning in New Zealand in his first-ever race at Western Springs Speedway near Auckland. The victories didn’t stop there as he picked up two more wins during the holiday season while competing in Australia.

The late-season surge boosted the psyche of the TSR team as it enters the 2012 season. Schatz will campaign with the WoO for the 16th season, and he’ll once again be behind the wheel of the TSR No. 15 STP/Armor All/Chevy J&J. The Fargo, N.D., racer has finished second in the WoO championship standings the past two seasons after winning four consecutive titles.

Steve Kinser, Driver of the No. 11 TSR/Bass Pro Shops/Chevy/J.D. Byrider Maxim:

Another season is set to begin with the DIRTcar Nationals in Florida. Last year, you started out strong by winning four of the first seven races, and closed the season with consistent finishes. What is your mindset heading into the season-opening weekend?

“I’m ready to race. I’ve worked hard. The team has worked hard. We’re all ready to get back to competition. The beginning of the year is always something you look forward to. We’ve spent all winter in Indiana, and being able to catch some good weather puts everyone in a good mood. If you can have some early success in Florida and then also out west, it can be a really fun start of the year.”

For the eighth straight year, the World of Outlaws begins the season at Volusia Speedway Park. You’ve won three of the last four races contested at the track. Can you explain why you have been so successful there in recent openers?

INDIANAPOLIS (Feb. 14, 2012) – Twenty-time World of Outlaws (WoO) Sprint Series champion Steve Kinser started his day with a morning bike ride in the fresh Florida sunshine. It was a chance for the driver of the Tony Stewart Racing (TSR) No. 11 Bass Pro Shops/JD Byrider/Chevy Maxim to break a sweat on the final day of his offseason. On Wednesday night, it’s back to business behind the wheel of a Winged Sprint car for the 56-year-old with the 41st Annual Florida DIRTcar Nationals by University of Northwestern Ohio kicking off the 2012 season at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.

Kinser will begin his third season driving for three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart and 34th season competing with “The Greatest Show on Dirt.” He put himself through a rigorous training program following the 2011 season to prepare for the 10-month WoO season, which includes more than 80 nights of racing from now until the first week of November.
