John Edwards and Robin Liddell Take Chevrolet Camaro GT.R to Top Podium Spot in GT for Second Consecutive Race

With GS Win Earlier in the Day, Edwards Becomes Only Fourth GRAND-AM Driver to Win Two Races in One Day

BRASELTON, Ga. (April 20, 2013) – Continuing their winning ways, the Stevenson Motorsports duo of John Edwards and Robin Liddell led the field at Road Atlanta to the checkered flag, and brought their No. 57 Stevenson Motorsports Camaro GT.R to Victory Lane for a second-consecutive week. The pair started sixth when qualifying was rained out, and the starting grid was set on team point standings for the Video Studio Ultimate Grand Prix of Atlanta, Round 4 on the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series 2013 schedule.

 

With strong driving skills and good pit strategy, they were able to keep their Camaro in the front of the field at the conclusion of the 2.75-hour race.  The victory marks Liddell’s 20th career win in the GT division and Edward’s sixth.

Max Angelelli, the Italian veteran co-driving this season for the first time with 21-year-old Jordan Taylor and also this weekend with reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay, turned a fast lap of 1 minute, 42.547 second at 124.977 mph on the 3.56-mile, 12-turn superspeedway road circuit. Chevrolet Roars into Daytona for Kickoff to 2013 GRAND-AM Road Racing Season; New Team Chevy Racing Display to Highlight Fan Activities for the Weekend

DETROIT – Chevrolet is ready to get back to racing and kick off the 2013 GRAND-AM Road Racing season. The year will begin with the 51st running of the Rolex 24-Hour at Daytona, a legendary endurance race that tests both man and machine.

Following a successful campaign in 2012 which saw the Chevrolet Corvette Daytona Prototype make its competition debut, Team Chevy looks to build on the strength of last season’s eight Daytona Prototype victories that netted the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Series Engine Manufacturers’ Championship.

This season Team Chevy’s Rolex Sports Car Series roster is comprised of six Corvette DP teams, including the newly established 8Star Motorsports, which will field the No. 3 Corvette DP. 8Star will join Action Express Racing, which fields two entries: the No. 5 and No. 9 Corvette DPs. Long-time Team Chevy partner Wayne Taylor Racing will field the No. 10 Velocity Worldwide Corvette DP. While the racing team may be in just its third month of existence, key members of its all-star driver lineup, engineering staff and crew are certainly no strangers to Daytona’s hallowed victory lane and, buoyed by their strong showing at the Roar Before the 24 test days earlier this month, as well as that of the sister No. 72 Vess Energy Services Porsche GT3 entry, Park Place Motorsports has served notice it will be a force to be reckoned with this weekend.

Tanner Foust takes second consecutive event win and 2012 Global Rallycross Championship at the final round at SEMA in Las Vegas. Brian Deegan took second at the event as well as in the championship, just 10 points behind Foust. Ken Block had a spectacular run, qualifying first and defeated the field in every lap he entered. Unfortunately, Block had an electrical issue which caused a fire in his Fiesta HFHV that then forced him out of the competition.

Chevrolet has won the 2012 GRAND-AM Rolex Series Engine Manufacturers’ Championship. Today’s win by SunTrust Racing in the season finale at Lime Rock Park capped the championship-winning effort by the five Corvette Daytona Prototype teams.

“Chevrolet is honored to have won the 2012 Engine Manufacturers’ Championship in the GRAND-AM Rolex Series,” said Jim Campbell, US Vice President Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. “This accomplishment, in the debut season of the Corvette Daytona Prototype, is the result of the dedication and hard work of our team owners, crews and drivers, along with that of our technical partners.”
