ST. PETERSBURG (Fla.) (March 24, 2013) – James Hinchcliffe made the right move at the right time to grab the lead on the final restart of the 110-lap race, and never looked back to score his career-first win in the IZOD IndyCar Series. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Friday, March 22, 2013) – That Will Power and Ryan Hunter-Reay were at the top of the time chart on the opening day of preparations for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg wasn’t a surprise. After all, they dueled for the IZOD IndyCar Series title in 2012.

The driver who ranked third, Simona de Silvestro, was a bit of a surprise – a pleasant one to the first-year KV Racing Technology driver.

Power, who has earned the pole at St. Petersburg the past three years, led 25 drivers with a best lap of 1 minute, 1.4467 seconds, while Hunter-Reay, the reigning IZOD IndyCar Series champion, checked in second at 1:01.6252.

Victory is Second Consecutive Win for Corvette Daytona Prototype

The No. 10 SunTrust Racing Corvette Daytona Prototype DP driving duo of Max Angelelli and Ricky Taylor battled from the ninth starting position in what can only be described as extremely adverse conditions to capture their first win of the season in the Rolex Sports Car Series.

The win is the second consecutive for the Corvette Daytona DP which made its debut in Rolex competition at the 2012 Rolex 24-Hour race at Daytona in January 2012.

“We are very happy,” said Angelelli. “The team did an amazing job, good strategy at this. I think it was just fantastic. Our Corvette was perfect.”

Although both the Daytona Prototype (DP) and Grand Touring (GT) teams are equipped with rain tires designed to race in the rain, torrential downpours and standing water around the 2.3-mile course made it treacherous to navigate with an acceptable degree of safety. GRAND-AM officials were forced to end the race 52 minutes before the scheduled two-hour and 45-minute time for the race.

We had some issues in the beginning that we have to raise the revs so that we can have the battery, or something like that. But, to be honest, it didn’t upset us, it makes our temperature in the engine very nice and everything went really smooth.”

IndyCarST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Will Power says claiming the pole for the eighth Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is a “good start,” which he hopes six months down the road will lead to a championship finish.

Power set a circuit-qualifying record of 1 minute, 1.3721 seconds in winning the pole for the IZOD IndyCar Series’ season-opening race March 25.

Power has started from the pole in the race on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street circuit for three consecutive years. He won in 2010 and was runner-up to Dario Franchitti in 2011.

Ryan Briscoe will start alongside his Team Penske teammate on the front row, while Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay and James Hinchcliffe will occupy Row 2. It’s the best start in the race for all three (Hinchcliffe didn’t compete in 2011).
